How to choose a best GM Tech 2 diagnostic scanner with my Saab?

This post will guide you how to choose a best GM Tech2 diagnostic programming tool.

Question 1: I am considering to buy a GM Tech 2 diagnostic scanner for use with my Saab. Which one of the ones has the best quality and is equipped with the latest software/hardware? Do you also sell USB port converter for the Tech 2?.
Answer 1: 4 versions of TECH2 are available, including: SP23-B3, SP23-B, SP23-C and SP23-1.
The same: they all have the same functions.

The differences:
SP23-B is the best quality Tech2 with Black Carry box, best quality more stable
SP23-B3 is the SP23-B best quality tech2 with carton box, also has the best quality
SP23-C is the same like SP23-B, it also including the Black carry box, but comes from another factory.
SP23-1 is the best price one, it is with carton box, will help you save much more money.

In conclusion:
If you wanna best quality and more professional, please can choose SP23-B ,because it has a black carry box.
If you wanna best quality but wanna cheap one, can choose SP23-B3
If you wanna a good quality and also cheaper, please choose SP23-1
The SAAB vehicle you can choose SAAB English card, it is the latest version.
The USB port converter for GM tech2 ? we are not available.

Question 2:
Does the set sp23-b3 come with a cigarette lighter power cable?
Is the TIS 2000 SAAB suitable ?
Which of the shipping options would you advise ?
Answer 2: Yes. It includes 1 pieces of 12V cigarette lighter power cable.

how to fix Tech2 reports SAAB mass airflow deviation issue P0101?

MY Tech2 scan tool has reported this issue for a while. My car has been throwing a mass airflow deviation code sporadically while driving. I reset my ecu, drive around for a while but the code will pop up again. When it throws the code the ecu also limits torque (the 04's way of limp home mode).
I have gone through all of the vacuum lines and was not able to find a single leak anywhere. I think the MAF sensor is bad but I just wanted to get an opinion before I buy a new one.
Here are two pictures showing what the GM Tech2 Scanner is reading, one is the fuel adaption and trim which should be close to 0% I believe and the car is doing this because of the air deviation. The other is the actual air deviation test; normal fuel correction should be closer to zero, I think it says normal range is between +/- 5% and same goes for the air deviation at idle.

I also took a video of the numbers read from the MAF sensor, which should be sitting between 3.5-4.5 g/s at idle. Mine sits below 3.5 most of the time and jumps up above 5 sometimes.

9th January 2015 update:
Replaced the MAF today, and the readings on the sensor are better (I think that MAF was going bad, I think there are multiple problems) but I'm still getting the p0101 airflow deviation code. I don't believe that there is a leak on the line or in the intercooler anymore because I ran some tests with the tech 2 and noticed the only time there is an airflow deviation is during idle or letting off the gas. While under high load, deviation sat at right around 0%.
Going to try some more stuff out tommorow. Will report back.

10th January 2015 update:
Today I replaced the Charge Air Solenoid which is located on top of the turbo bypass valve next to the intake filter box. I drove the car around for a while with the tech2 and the air deviation was sitting right around 0%!
I think it is fixed now, I'm going to drive it for a few days to test but so far it seems the MAF and the Charge Air Solenoid were both going bad if not bad already. When I looked up what can happen when that solenoid goes bad, a few spots said it can cause the turbo to "pump" when letting off the gas which in my case caused a sharp fluctuation in MAF calculated and recieved during that time. It also is used to regulate engine idling so I believe thats why I was seeing a large deviation in idle as well.

Corvette C5 F55 disable and DBS reflash with GM Tech2 scan tool

So here I would like to share my experience disabling F55 and reflashing DBS using GM Tech2 scan tool. I have a 2005 c5 F55 with heads, cam, injectors, etc. tuned with HP tuners. I did some search about having the DBS reflash and F55 disable done and I read in a couple blogs and threads that people are unsure whether the DBS reflash or any other BCM changes will affect custom ECU tunes. I had the tech do these two changes to the BCM and checked the car after each.

Disclaimer: Please strictly follow the steps in case anything goes wrong. The F55 disabling and DBS reflashing are on your own risk.
First I had the tech do the DBS reflash for me in about 10 min. My tune was NOT affected and the car started and ran normally.
I then had him disable the F55 suspension. Again, my tune was NOT affected and the car started and ran normally.

It is also worth noting that HP Tuners can NOT make changes to the BCM.
If you are looking to disable your F55 using the TECH 2 scanner:
1.Hook up Tech 2, turn car ON, make sure module in the rear is PLUGGED IN. Do Not unplug the rear module.
2.Go to diagnostics -- Body --- BCM --- BCM Special functions -- BCM Setup.
3.Delete the F45 option ( F55 did not appear on the menu screen on the Tech 2, use F45)
4.Save new configuration.
5.Do not turn car off, do not remove Tech 2, go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the grey connector( the widest one) leave the center plug in and the smaller black plug in.
6.Turn off car leave Tech 2 plugged in.
7.Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of car.
8.Turn car on to verify the " Max speed 80 mph" is gone.
9.Unplug Tech 2 and put tools away.
Then you have to follow the bouncing ball of checking off RPO Codes. When you get to F55 set it to disabled.

Using GM Tech2 to disable seatbelt alarm, program DDM, add modules

Recently, we have quite a few future-buyers asking about GM Tech2 Scanner. Here obd2eshop would like to share a simple guide for SAAB with pictures for GM Tech2 beginners. To use the scanner on SAAB, you will need a 32MB PCMCIA card. Some functions are hidden and work in conjunction with other functions (like rolling locks, keyout unlock).
How to connect Tech2 scanner to SAAB OBD port

1.DLC cable connection
2.SAE 16/19 pin adapter (P/N 300098)
How to turn off seat belt alarm:
This function is in “Most Common Adjustments”
Select your Saab year and model then select all.
Make sure your key is set to On.

Select F5. Most Common Adjustments
This brings you to:

Select Seat Belt Reminder = Off
How to Program DDM, Enable Comfort Open/Close, Learn Pinch
Prerequisites:
Security via TIS2000! Without this you would not be able to add anything!!!

Go to main menu, select F0: Diagnostics and then select your model and year.

Select F7: Add/ Remove

How to add modules

Thanks for reminding me Tech2! I will do this down below!

Looks like Tech2 caught an error! Passenger door's anti-pinch was disabled somehow... It fixes it automatically.

So that was pretty straight-forward right? Now hit Exit and go back. We have to setup pinch protection under the service tab...

Holy Cow! My fingers almost were chopped off!!!

That's pretty much the same for adding all modules. I have to say, autosuggest is your best friend. If you mess up adding wrong part, the ECU will catch the mismatch. Bonus.

GM MDI VS Tech2 in car coverage, function, performance

Since 2006, rumor has it that GM Tech2 scan tool will be replaced by GM MDI (Multiple Diagnostic Interface), a new piece of equipment coming out to work alongside the Tech 2, but today we still can find Tech 2 in GM forums, where drivers are hesitate between MDI and Tech2. Here I will analyze the difference between the two tools and reveal the reason why Tech2 is not be replaced.
Vehicle Coverage
GM Tech 2 is used on obd2 GM vehicles which mainly built from 1992 to 2011, while GM MDI supports vehicles from 1990 up to 2013. Now every vehicle for now on will be using GDS with the MDI that is why we said MDI is replacing the tech 2. However, Tech2 works with quite well with some SAAB cars due to its SAAB card, while a few SAAB owners said MDI not support their cars.
Function
MDI is a diagnostic and programming device. Apart from diagnosing 1990 to 2013 GM, Opel, Chevrolet and Saab, it also supports TIS2Web, GM Global Diagnostics System (GDS), SPS and MDI Manager Software, European Chevrolet offline programming, SPS programming on existing and future SGM vehicles, and will be able to do remote programming with the Tech 2 for all 2007 and previous vehicles in the near future. Using the GM MDI for programming can free up your Tech 2 for diagnostics and other tasks.
GM Tech 2 mainly supports diagnosing; with TIS 2000 CD in the package, it can also do programming. But it cannot program as many systems as GDI.
Communication
MDI works with a PC. It takes advantage of all those new PCs installed in the service bays under the Multiple PC Initiative and is able to communicate with a laptop via both USB and WiFi so that users can put MDI in a vehicle in the parking lot and communicate with it my PC.
Tech2 is a hand held device and communicates vehicles via USB cable, no additional PC is needed. It is very easy to carry and use.
Performance
The GM MDI offers faster programming speed at a lower cost. Depending on vehicle architecture (protocols/modules), the GM MDI can be 20-70% faster than the Tech 2. This helps alleviate vehicle battery drain problems during programming.
